Over a half-century of service to Great Falls and North Central Montana

On March 21, 1954 KFBB Television inaugurated service to Great Falls and North Central Montana from studios west of the city on the Vaughn Frontage Road.

Its predecessor in broadcasting was KFBB radio, founded in 1922 at the same time when the pioneers of commercial broadcasting in America were first signing on the air across the country.

Broadcasting originally as a CBS affiliate, KFBB in 1968 became an affiliate of the ABC television network and has been with that network ever since.

KFBB has weathered two major disasters in its history – the flood of 1964, called the worst in more than 100 years. The torrent forced the station off the air for three days, as its studios were under as much as three feet of water. And just three years later, a massive fire completely destroyed the station, once again knocking the signal off the air for a few days until emergency deliveries of a transmitter and other equipment came to get the station up and running again.

Its present facility, built following the disastrous fire, is located on Snyder Hill overlooking Great Falls.

Throughout the years, innovations in technology and programming have always been the hallmark of KFBB, along with a close relationship with civic and commercial institutions in Great Falls and the surrounding communities.

Consistent through all the years of operation, and through a series of ownership changes, the mission of KFBB has never changed. KFBB is dedicated to providing superior quality programming; comprehensive news, weather and sports; and support for the community in which we live and the communities we serve.
